Radical Wedding Vows
Some people think its crazy to get married at all these days. Imagine the storm some of the sentiments raised in these wedding vows caused. The thing that stood out to me today when I re-read them (This is making me nostalgic!) was the following I will follow Him wherever he leads us, putting the extension of his kingdom before all worldly possessions and pleasures. Funily enough I don't think I really thought that wherever would include a lovely house on the edge of a forest, a company car from my new job, and many other creature comforts. I guessed we'd be expected to live in a mud hut. Funny the way people expect all Christians to be constantly poor. I have known some struggle, and I sure dont think riches equates to blessing from God always, but I need to learn to follow Paul's example. Somehow it almost seems easier to do when you have but a little!
I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do everything through him who gives me strength. (Phil 4:11-13)
