Jesus might have been the son of God but he was also a top bloke who threw ripper barbies.
The latest version of the Bible has been written in Australian slang in an attempt to get more people interested in the Good Book.
In Kel Richards' Aussie Bible, the Virgin Mary is 'a pretty special Sheila' who gets knocked up with the Big Boss's son.
Instead of the traditional swaddling clothes and manger, the Shiela wraps the baby in a bunny rug and tucks him up in a feed trough in the back shed because the local pub is full to bursting.
The light-hearted version was inspired by a teacher in England who translated the book into Cockney rhyming slang.
Mr Richards said: 'It is written using the Australian vernacular and as if the events had actually happened in Australia.'
And replacing the original opening of 'in the beginning...' Mr Richards starts his book with 'G'day'.
He describes how the cocky leader Herod was 'as jumpy as a walaby on hot rocks' so he gathered together a bunch of smart blokes with 'more degrees than a thermometer'.
The book has been given the backing of the church, with Anglican Archbishop of Sydney Peter Jensen attending the launch."
