The paragraph:
It was a dark and stormy night. Having just finished the newspaper, Jake walks back to his desk and takes a seat behind it. He turns to look out the window. Lightning dances across the horizon, and lights up his dark room. Then, at the door he hears a knock. He turns to face the door.

The knock is repeated, more firmly this time. 'Dad!' his teenaged daughter calls. 'I know you're in there! '

Adrian's contribution-
How could he explain to his daughter the real reason she had seen him with a beautiful young woman who wasn't his wife earlier that day. He knew what his daughter must be thinking. He had seen the look on her face when she saw him there with another woman. He imagined his whole world falling down around him in the aftermarth of the next few minutes. What if his daughter should tell his wife? Should he lie to his own daughter? Or should he tell the truth? If he told her the truth would the outcome be worse than if he let her continue to think what he knew she did now. With a deep breath he eventually said in a weak voice, still unsure what he would say to her 'I guess you better come in.'
