Discucsion with Euan of 'The Obvious' continues......

Earlier today I blogged about one of my favorite bloggers once again. Now, Euan Replies (in the comments section)

The very fact that you find communication between us such a problem when we are each in our own ways trying to make sense of the world around us, makes my point for me.

I have no problem talking about beliefs and faith with anyone until they start ascribing views to me which I don't hold or start ramming their own views down my throat.

Euan, I don't find communication between us a problem at all. Remember I blog about you often, and regularly quote you in my posts. Indeed this is here in my blog in the open. Far from having a problem with us talking about belief and faith I have engineered this whole 'discussion' just to get such a conversation going.

I honestly don't think I am the one with a problem about this- my beliefs and faith are out there in the blogosphere. I am a classical christian and not afraid to admit it, blog about it, discuss it and defend it from any quarter. Euan, on the other hand, well I am still not sure exactly what you believe. Euan is clearly a thinker, a gentleman, and a great blogger, and equally clearly not a classical theist. I certainly would not want to 'ascribe views' to you- I would rather hear from you what you think yourself!

The only potential problem here is one that you raised. Namely that as a Christian, I have an annoying tendancy (which can appear as arrogant to the uninitiated) to think that my views have an impact on the rest of society. Of course, if I am wrong then my views have no real impact at all. My problem, if I have one, is how to communicate with a man like you about my beliefs without you coming to the conclusion I am 'ramming my views down your throat' (Which again I would not want to do!)

Incidently, as its Christmas time, why not scroll down a couple of lines and read the story of Jesus birth as retold (with some probable errors of course!) by the 'Real Live Preacher'. What I would like to know from you most of all at the outset of what might be an interesting conversation is what do you make of that story? Not so much the Real Live Preacher's retelling (although that too if you like) but rather the whole Jesus story. Who was he? What difference has he made to human history? To your life? What is your view of this man?

Update- Euans reply "I for one would rather just go back to enjoying my holiday." No worries Euan, have a nice one!!
