keep your POWDER dry Oliver Cromwell (1599 1658) is said to have said this to troops when they were about to cross a river: Put your trust in God; but mind to keep your powder dry.

This combining spiritual trust and sensible action is such a wise, seemingly obvious statement it is amazing how often it is ignored!
