July 2004

It is great to relax, unwind, and do as little as possible. Yes, that is an option with four children. The beach has a lot going for it.

Of course, we Brits are funny about the beach. I guess we’d go even if it was raining. But with the addition of some wetsuits even swiming in the sea is not out of the question here in ’sunny’ Devon!

We could have travelled to the med for the same price or so people say. But how to get a family of six abroad on holiday I ask myself…..? Anyone with any experience to advise me for next year? Or even this October’s half term? I feel the need for heat (even if I am the only person in the UK who succeeded in getting sunburnt this week- my skin is feeble beyond belief!)

Me me me….

in misc

Today we talk a lot about human rights and almost nothing about responsibilities. Whatever people might feel about the rights and wrongs of the invasion of Iraq the soldiers must surely amaze us. How in this modern society of me and my needs do the find it in themselves to put their very lives on the line? Jesus showed us the way when he was tempted. Asked by the devil to manipulate material things to meet his needs, he declared his satisfaction not in money or possessions to meet his needs but rather the word of God.

Asked to manipulate God to demonstrate his care for him by naming and claiming a promise out of context he (unlike some modern faith disciples) refused to put God to the test.

Asked to manipulate others to get power he refused, acknowleding God is the only source of power and only one worthy of our unquestioning service.

Money/posessions to meet my needs, seeing God as our servant, and seeking power over others- sound familiar at all?

Well, here I am sitting in my car next about 2 metres from the sea. I have been left with two sleeping kids to enjoy my music (Daniel Bedingfield) with the windows open and the sounds and smell of the sea lapping around me.
Suddenly its all worth it- the late nights at work to [...]

How to get a link from another blogger……

July 22, 2004

What If I Stumble blog has proven yet again one of my strongest assertions about blogging. It seems to be an imutable fact that the most reliable way to get mentioned on someone elses blog is to be nice about them on your own blog. I will close this post with the quote [...]

The power of blogging…..?

July 22, 2004

Its funny how influenced by blogs google is. I mentioned the work we do with Middlesex university on this blog and linked to my church and suddenly my home church is in the top three at google for ‘middlesex church’. Meanwhile a large Brighton church called CCK comes well below our own church page even [...]

Terrorist or freedom fighter?

July 22, 2004

I have been criticised for linking to Dan’s historical irony. Apparently the post is ‘Anti-American’.
Just to say to begin with, a link to a post on this site doesnt mean I necessarily agree with the post just that I find it interesting. To me the whole point of blogging is to interact with those [...]

A Christian AND a Psychiatrist?

July 21, 2004

A reader asked “How can you be a christian and a psychiatrist? Does the methodology and beliefs of psychiatry not conflict with those of being a christian for you?”
Psychiatry often gets a bad press these days. Sometimes its the failure of services to prevent a suicide or even a murder. Sometimes its about [...]

What era is he referring to……?

July 18, 2004

Read Dan and find out:
“The world is dominated by a single economic and military superpower. Her armed forces are several times bigger than the nearest competitor. Her multinational corporations dominate the global economy. Her culture, technology and ideas have been spread across the globe, as has her political influence.
Yet, there exists an underdeveloped region [...]

I’m a blogfather!

July 18, 2004

Someone has described my blog as a parent blog! In What If I Stumble blog I am listed as what I guess is essentially a blogfather. I feel honoured but concerned that this blogger feels ‘unworthy’. The blog is well worth a read and as I said in the comments over there- Trust [...]

The golden result…..

July 11, 2004

Jollyblogger
quotes The Golden Rule “Do unto others as you would have them due unto you.”
He then goes onto quote The Golden Result “People usually do unto you as you have done unto them.”
He explains “When someone treats us badly we ought to begin resolution of the conflict by examining how we have [...]
