RIP Uncle

RIP Uncle September 23, 2004

Today was the funeral of my Uncle. He was a godly man who when told he had cancer said that he would continue to bless the lord. Five months later he was dead. A pastor of a church, he was younger than my parents and the first of his generation to die in our family.

We have been blessed up till now as a family with health and long life. I guess that we should ask ‘what have we done to deserve such blessings?’ rather than ‘why has he been taken so relatively young?’ Still it is natural to grieve and there was much of that today, although as the minister said we don’t greive in the same way as those who have no hope. We believe that he is now in a better place.

The rubber really hits the road when it comes to faith at a time like this. His two daughters in their tributes made clear today that his testimony and example have spurred them onto wanting to serve God with all their might. I pray that the family will remember the smiling face so characteristic of him and the happy memories of years together. I pray that my own children will have as many nice things to say about me on my death as his did today.
