ESV Interview : breadth of acceptance #1
Previous Next A Bible translation often obtains favor only in a narrow circle within the church and or in certain denominational groups. It seems from the internet that a broader spectrum of Christians are being drawn to the ESV from different backgrounds. Are you encouraged by that? Watch Bill Mounce respond (Windows Media format).
As far as the ESV and the Internet is concerned, one of the things Ive been very encouraged about is the publishers willingness to share it. If youre a nonprofit organization, if you have a website up, that wants to allow people to look at verses, the publishers been really good at giving free access to the ESV. Its encouraging because it is Gods Word. And while it costs a tremendous amount of money to produce a translation, the publisher does understand that it is Gods Word and has done a wonderful job at making it available for nonprofit websites.
My Response to this answer
There is no doubt that the wonderfully flexible and modern appraoch to making the ESV available online has helped in its acceptance by bloggers. Even before the ESV blog you could usee RSS and all kinds of technical jiggery pokery that we techogeeks love. I do believe it is still the case that such generosity online promotes more sales offline. But of course it is not just the technical wizzardry that attracts us!
