Pentecostal and charismatic dialogue
The Internet Monk writes about feeling unable to have a conversation with charismatics. Well Michael, here I am talking and willing to listen- lets interact. Charismatics out there need to hear what this brother is saying about us, and not react by condemning him but by reaching out and learning to give and receive respect and understanding. Labels: CJ Mahaney
To take his points one by one-
1. The scripture. There are many charismatics and pentecostals who sadly fit the description you give. But we are not all like that. Take a walk over to my church site www.jubilee-church.org/sermons and follow the links to newfrontiers, Terry Virgo and CJ mahaney as well as perhaps listening to some of our sermons or digging around on this blog. There are biblically committed charismatics out there.
2. Worship. We need a dialogue and to get back to a form of worship that is consistent with the whole bible. The psalms incidently give the lie to both what I like to call "false faith" which pretends everything is ok when it isnt, AND a flat emotionless worship of the mind only.
3. Prayer All I can say is amen to this criticism of what is more like magic than prayer.
4. Spiritual leaders. I am greatful to God for the lleaders I have experienced in my life. I am also only too painfully aware that what can look like or even begin as annointed godly leadership can become twisted and evil. May God deliver us from both churches which are not led by anyone and those who are dominated by someone who does not understand that the greatest among us should be a servant of all.
Lets get this conversation going- I intend to interact with a whole lot more of your posts, Michael. I would welcome you to do the same with mine.
