International Bloggers fundraising effort for New Orleans victims
While the main stream media is dissecting a disaster, bloggers have already raised over $600,000 to support the victims of America's worst modern natural disaster. Labels: CJ Mahaney
Hugh Hewitt has a great post about how it is not the time for recriminations just yet- when people are dying we have to simply help them. Bloggers, from around the world are urged to join the relief efforts in a very real and tangible way by blogging about opportunities to donate.
A concerted effort is underway to encourage bloggers and their readers to give to charities supporting the survivors. Over at Truth Laid Bear, there is a a list of charities to give to and a running total which will give us an idea of how much blogs as a whole have raised towards this relief operation.
The church has for centuries been a major vehicle of social aid, and it is interesting that churches are once again among those at the fore of offering help. My money will be going to the Sovereign Grace Ministries appeal. C. J. Mahaney has long been one of my favorite preachers, and since his family of churches has a church in New Orleans itself, I am confident that my money will be well used. Incidently, just to there is another Sovereign Grace Hurricane Relief fund which seems to be being organised by a church which happens to share the same name! C.J.'s wife and daughters run a fantastic blog called GirlTalk which is also I am sure going to grow in popularity soon- if you havent seen it check it out!
You may want to give to any of the other charities listed but do pop over to the Truth Laid Bear site and tell them you have given so that the total can be updated accurately.
