I have been humbled to be asked by David Wayne to contribute to Theologica, the Theology blog launched by World Magazine. Here is my first entry over there:

When David asked me if I would like to contribute to this new blog my response was simply “Is the pope a Catholic?”

David is a good man, but I have to question the wisdom of his judgement in choosing me. I am not a pastor, I am not a theologian, I have no theological degrees and I have no particular claim to authority in my witterings.

Perhaps the best that I can say is that if pastors have dirtier hands than professional theologians, arguably as someone with a fulltime so-called “secular” job mine get even dirtier. Certainly working as a psychiatrist for several years let me see the unfortunate and messy side of life.

For whatever reason my mainly theological blogging seems to get a bigger audience than it probably ought by rights to do. So, what you get with me is theology by an ordinary guy, OK. I hope that without compromising on the truth I can “scratch where you itch” to some degree and bat around some of the things that interest me.

So what do you want to know about me? I am a qualified doctor, specialised in psychiatry, and in 2003 left direct patient care to work in the commercial arena. I have done some theological training with a family of churches called newfrontiers which, like Sovereign Grace has been described by some as “reformed in doctrine and charismatic in practice.”

I am part of the regular preaching team of a church in london. I run my own UK blog as well as running a Christian Blogs aggregator and community of blogs called the Blogdom of God. If you want to hear more about my story then I have posted it over at my place.

Like most bloggers I blog about issues that interest me, and I guess as a preacher and lifelong bible student it is no surprise that theology is what I have increasingly gravitated towards. I hope that together with the other contributors and the comments of our readers we will be able to build in theologica a great home for highly relevant theology on the web.
