Coutship and Marriage the Mahaney way

October 5, 2005

The Girltalk women are sharing their courtship stories (I sure hope Carolyn shares her’s also!) so far and have shared their stories. Janelle has even shared a she and her husband made announcing their surprise wedding to their church and telling the story in more detail. The stories are well crafted and well worth a read (yes, even some of us men are hopeless romantics!)

It struck me as I read them that many of my readers might find the notion of courtship alien, and in particular the involvement of parents in the process might seem unusal to a significant number of them. I am sure that if you had CJ and Carolyn as your parents you would be delighted to have them involved in your relationship, and certainly if you watch Janelle’s video their involvement doesnt seem to have detracted from the romance one little bit.

But, what of people who’s parents are unable or unwilling to be so involved? What of people who’s parents are not believers and/or who would share very different values to their children?

Perhaps the Girl Talk girls can share a bit about how those kind of situations work out in their churches. I can’t help but feel that there might be many out there who would look at these stories with longing and wishing that they too had the priveledge of having parents like Carolyn and CJ.

Update
Nicole is sharing her story in several parts- part one is up.
