Michael Spencer Responds to my Link and "Warning Label"

internetmonk.com has a great post in which he responds to seeing my description of his blog when I finally plucked up the courage to add him to my blogroll the other day - something he has been encouraging me NOT to do for more than a year now!

Here's what I said: "For me, Michael's flashes of sheer brilliance outweigh my disagreement with some of the things he says. This is a voice to listen carefully to, discard the error, and cling to the truth. Prepare to be challenged, and to disagree!"

This was Michael's humble and incredibly gracious response - the whole post makes a great read:

"Yo, Adrian . . . its an honor. (I really mean that, brother.)

There are all kinds of people in the blogosphere. Of all of them, I know no one who is a more relentlessly positive and constructive spirit than Adrian Warnock. All of us in the 'Christian' blogosphere should be grateful for Adrians non-stop promotion of the common Gospel and the common good, particularly between charismatic and cessationist branches of the reformed family . . . .

How many people reading this blog, and others, would admit that some, even all of the following would be true for them: they appreciate the ministries/preaching of highly diverse men and churches, not all of whom are right about everything or approve of one another? They really wonder if any of us are as right as we think we are?

Further, I wonder how many people, reading Adrians words about me, would say this: 'Why not apply that principle to ALL those names on our blogrolls?'

Why cant we all line up and volunteer to be flawed? Looking to start a line? Well, Im HONORED to be first in that line. If labeling the iMonk as potentially 'errant' does someone, somewhere the favor of awakening them to the fact that we all think way, way, way too highly of our teams, then BRAVO. Give me that T-shirt AND the bumper sticker.

In fact, its too bad Adrian had to write that sentence. I should have said it long ago. And maybe I have said it enough times that my readers already know its true.

Im happy to take Adrians warning label as part of the honor of being his friend and a link on his site. Now Im inviting the rest of you to sign up. Could all of us stand it to say that we need to be taken with a grain of Gospel salt? Could all of us stand to invite our hearers to swallow the fruit (of the Spirit) and spit out the seeds (of opinion and fallen personality)?

By the way, Dr. Warnock is a psychiatrist, which makes me appreciate his endorsement all the more. Seeing that I am a poster child for Paranoids Anonymous, Im just glad hes not sending me medication. Though if you have some, doc . . . ."
