Josh Harris

Josh Harris has taken on the leadership role of Covenant Life Church which was led for almost thirty years by C. J. Mahaney. I was able to interview him and focused on this relationship. Josh is well known as an author and conference speaker. Meeting C. J. inspired him to stop dating the church and instead give his life to serve it as a lead pastor.

VIDEO – My Jesus, My Savior on American Idol

April 15, 2008

In the category of surprising and bizarre things I missed hearing about while I was at New Word Alive last week is this video clip taken from YouTube. It seems that the last eight contestants on American Idol sang this song on two consecutive nights, changing “My Jesus” to “My Shepherd” on the first night. [...]

Facebook or Courtbook From the Man Who Kissed Facebook Goodbye

August 26, 2007

So, although Josh Harris has kissed Facebook goodbye, he has this to say to the rest of us, especially singles: Enjoy Facebook. And if you’re a godly single man, receive it as a gift from God to assist you in nonchalantly building a friendship with a godly Christian woman. I’m serious, men! If you’re mature [...]

The Risks and Rewards of Using Technology in Sermon Preparation

March 13, 2007

Note: I originally wrote this article for www.sermoncentral.com where it appeared on February 26, 2007. __________________________________________________ Technology helps me in both my sermon preparation and in my personal devotional life. By technology, I’m referring specifically to the Internet and Bible software. I love it and have no apology for using it to discover insights from [...]

DG06 – When Josh Harris Was Glad He Wasn’t Mark Driscoll

October 1, 2006

Josh Harris reports from one of the discussion sessions – his whole post is great, but what stuck out for me was what he had to say about Driscoll: “Moment I Was Most Glad Not to Be Mark Driscoll: When John Piper gave warm pastoral adjustment and correction to him while he wasn’t there. I [...]

TRAVEL DIARY – Visiting Covenant Life Church

August 29, 2006

Having visited this church on Sunday, I can see why C.J. frequently describes his home church as “the dearest place on earth.” Somehow I suspect if I, too, had been a part of this church for decades, then I would feel the same way. It was a real joy just to be able to pose [...]

What is C.J. Mahaney?

August 8, 2006

Mark Dever asks over at the T4G Blog, “What is C.J.?” The question, no doubt, relates to C.J. having handed over his senior pastor role to Josh Harris. Having seen a little of his public persona, and having had the pleasure of interviewing C.J. over e-mail, I am willing to bet he will be hesitant [...]

Preparing a Sermon (with John Stott and Josh Harris)

December 11, 2005

Josh Harris has a great post on sermon preparation: “Call the congregation to act! Our expectation as the sermon comes to an end, is not merely that people will understand or remember or enjoy our teaching, but that they will do something about it. If there is no summons, there is no sermon! The precise [...]

Josh Harris is jealous of Tim Challies

December 4, 2005

Josh Harris has a list of links to blogs on his main website. I was greatly honoured to find myself included in such a list and loved the comment about Tim Challies, which I suspect is a reference to Tim’s post on being jealous of Josh for being discipled by CJ. Anyway Josh has chosen [...]

Are you jealous of Josh Harris?

November 22, 2005

Challies Dot Com has a great post where he confesses to being jealous of my fellow reformed charismatic Josh Harris. The humour Tim begins with tempts me to begin my brief response with what I hope is a humorous comment of my own: “Tim you need to realise that since God dispenses grace sovereignly he [...]

March 2, 2004

Now, a little while ago I surveyed the readers of this blog and discovered that a high percentage of the responders had significant problems with looking at internet porn.
