Simon Pettit 1954 – 2005: Dying well

Simon Pettit 1954 – 2005: Dying well January 25, 2005

Simon Pettit was a pillar in the family of churches I am delighted to be a part of. He died suddenly on 15th January serving the Lord. I learnt of it the same day, but only just read the entry on the newfrontiers site. What struck me was how Simon’s wife was described “She was strong, calm, deeply saddened and very positive about God’s sovereignty. God is upholding her and she displays no trace of anger, self-pity or bitterness, though she is feeling the terrible pain of the prospect of a future without Simon.”

When your husband dies aged 50 and you can be described as positive about the sovereignty of God, you know that Gods word has deeply touched you. Will I be able to act the same way when the phone call or visit comes for me and its a member of my family? Will I finish my race accomplishing all God has got for me? Beloved, Simon ran so well because he understood the need to be deeply committed to the family of God. I hope that you have a church family that is doing its best to make your life count.

I am so thrilled that I do.
